Judges are looking for clarity of design, usability and evidence of technical excellence. They also want to see brilliant content which informs the target audience. Judges will take into account audience metrics and commercial performance.

Future of Media Innovation 

This prize is for the best technical, commercial or editorial innovation in digital news media of the last year. The judges are looking for an advance in professional digital publishing which has improved the commercial sustainability of a media brand and/or engaged with the target audience in an innovative way.

News Media App 

The mobile or tablet-based app of the year. To qualify the app must have either been created by a publisher or by a technology company as a way of accessing professionally published content (ie. An aggregator). The judges are looking for design excellence, usability and evidence that the app has effectively engaged an audience.

Online Video 

 The award for the best use of video by an online publisher. The judges will be looking for a good story, well told in the video format. Any online publishers can enter this prize but the video must have been created for online in the first instance (rather than for broadcast on TV).

Data Journalism

Any data journalism team worldwide. The best example of data-based journalism of the last year. Judges are looking for effective communication of data, revelation, great story-telling and journalism which makes a difference

Newsletter

 Any email newsletter publisher globally. Judges will be looking for newsletters which have effectively grown an audience and which are well presented and written.

Audience Growth 

 Any news publisher globally. The website, app or other digital journalism product which has most effectively grown a meaningful audience over the last year. Publishers should include evidence from whatever metrics platform they use. The judges will be looking at rate of increase as well as overall size of the audience and will take into account engagement as well as overall reach.

Advertising Excellence 

 Any commercial news publisher globally, any ad and
creative agency working with news publishers, any native content publisher/agency.This category is aimed at specific campaigns which have effectively used a digital journalism platform. The judges will be looking at the quality of the messaging and storytelling in the campaign as well as evidence of its effectiveness.

Digital Storytelling 

 Any news publisher globally. This category recognises high-quality journalism which is enhanced by digital story-telling techniques. The judges are looking for a great story well told.

Podcast 

 Any podcast publisher globally submitting for the best journalism-based podcast of the year. Looking at technical proficiency: slickness of delivery and ease of access to information for the audience, quality of production and journalistic excellence: rigour, revelation and investigation.
